Hermosa Montessori School
Tucson, Az. Since 1978.
Elementary (Ages 6-9)
Students in grades 1-3 learn in a multi-age community using an interdisciplinary curriculum model designed to correspond to the developmental stages of children aged 6-9. A variety of materials are used to teach abstract concepts and Arizona Academic Standards.
Small group and individualized instruction is used to teach elementary students fundamental skills in reading, spelling and writing. Math instruction emphasizes the understanding of concepts, and process, as well as accuracy in computation, and the history of mathematics. Hermosa elementary students learn research skills, science, and perform experiments. They study of needs of people around the world and throughout history. Experiences in music and art are enhanced by attending plays, music, and dance performances during field trips. Basic skills are then applied in interdisciplinary themes. Students participate in cooperative sports and games, creative movement, and Spanish, and music.
